As the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations gets closer, so to do the selection of teams for the biggest Motocross race of the season. With defending Champions Germany making their selection around a month ago other teams soon followed.
As mentioned before Germany will go with Ken Roczen, Max Nagl and Dennis Ullrich, with Christian Brockel as reserve. Marcus Schiffer of last years winning team is out with injury.
Team Belgium was picked on the weekend, with Clement Desalle, Ken De Dycker and Jeremy Van Horebeek being included in the line-up. No doubt the Belgians will be one of the favourites with Desalle and De Dycker on the big bikes and Van Horebeek in the MX2 class.
France of course have Gautier Paulin, Jordi Tixier and Christophe Charlier. Another strong chance for a podium finish, although without Marvin Musquin, the two times World Motocross Champion.
Team New Zealand has been picked with Cody Cooper, Rhys Carter and Kayne Lamont forming the front line of defence for New Zealand's Motocross of Nations effort in 2013.
Team USA have news that Ryan Villopoto is out of the event to have an operation on a leg injury, his place to be taken by 2012 team member Justin Barcia, along with Ryan Dungey and Eli Tomac. Tomac of course will race the MX2 class and many in Europe are looking forward to seeing him race this event for the first time.
Team Australia was this week. Belgian Grand Prix winner Dean Ferris mentioned last week that he would love to be involved and has put his hand up to the selection panel, with his GP win his selection was no surprise, the second rider is Todd Waters and the third rider is Canadian Champion Brett Metcalfe.
Antonio Cairoli mentioned last month that he will race the event, as will Alessandro Lupino, although they are yet to decide on a third rider, it will be either David Philippaerts or Davide Guarneri. Lupino will be the MX2 rider and going by his recent form the Italian team have a great chance of making the podium.
The Netherlands team has the services of Jeffrey Herlings and Glenn Coldenhoff, and just like so man other teams they are trying to work out who will be the third rider. Nothing is decided yet, although Marc De Reuver is keen on racing the event.
More team news will come in the coming seven days, and as always it’s going to be interesting what teams like Great Britain, Latvia, Russia and Spain have. Names such as Tommy Searle, Jake Nicholls, Jonathan Barragán, Jose Butrón, Evgeny Bobryshev, Alexander Tonkov and Tanel Leok should all be included in their National teams.
