Steve Dixon – British Grand Prix
By Geoff Meyer | 05 Jul 2012
Grand Prix of Great Britain promoter Steve Dixon is one busy guy. Having run one of the best teams in the Grand Prix paddock with the Monster Energy Yamaha team, which includes rider Zach Osborne and Arnaud Tonus, plus their young charger Mel Pocock doing well in the European Championship, all is sailing along for Dixon at the moment.
Being the promoter of the Grand Prix of Great Britain, Dixon knows that he needs to start focusing on more than one thing and his passion for the sport seems to get him through the tough times every time.
“Motocross has been a part of my life since I was a young boy,” Dixon said. “It’s always important for me to give it 100% and try and make something a little special. We worked hard on getting the British Grand Prix even better than it was in 2011.”
Last year’s Grand Prix of Great Britain was a huge success and saw possibly the best circuit on the 2011 calendar with riders, team managers and spectators all gave positive comments on the whole weekend.
“What we always learn is that as long as we have a good circuit and the facility is ok we will have a great event. The circuit is first class and we have added some things to improve the facility. The British public is the best in the World when it comes to making noise and supporting their riders, so that is an added bonus.”
What will make the British Grand Prix an even bigger success will be how the British riders are performing and at the moment that all looks good, as several MX2 riders are fighting for top ten places and European success. It seems likely that European Championship leader Mel Pocock will race as a seeded home rider in the MX2 class and give the local fans even more to cheer about.
“Obviously with Tommy Searle riding well and other British riders like Jake Nicholls, Max Anstie and Shaun Simpson also doing well both in MX2 and MX1 the last few weekends, the support in August will be big. British Motocross is also riding on a bit of a high at the moment with Mel Pocock doing well in the European Championship and possibly involved in the MX2 class at Matterley, the spectators will have a lot to cheer for.”
