With around five weeks before the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, set for Lommel, Belgium, on September 30, several teams have decided their line-ups for the event. The most recent being Team New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain.

Last weekend at the Grand Prix of Great Britain, team Great Britain was decided with Tommy Searle, Jake Nicholls and Max Anstie selected by Team manager Neil Prince. Shaun Simpson was also in contention, but missed out at the last minute as Prince went for three MX2 riders for Lommel.

The New Zealand team for this year’s Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in has been named and it is MXoN veteran Josh Coppins, multiple representative Cody Cooper, and MXoN first-timer Kayne Lamont.

It will be Coppins’ final race at the top level of the sport, as he retires at the end of this season from all competition. Of course the highlight for Coppins came at the 2001 Motocross of Nations at the Namur circuit when Team New Zealand stood on top of the podium for the first time. Now more than ten years later he gets to close his brilliant career back in Belgium, a place he lived for 15 years and a place where he has so many fans.

The team will be managed by 2007 Veterans’ Motocross World Champion Tony Cooksley, of Pukekohe. Motorcycling New Zealand said it had been fortunate to receive funding from the FIM (the world governing body) to assist in sending a team to the Motocross of Nations.

In a team decimated by injuries to their top three riders Chad Reed, Brett Metcalfe and Michael Byrne, the Australian Team for the 2012 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations consist of Lawson Bopping, who is battling with Josh Coppins for the Australian MX1 Championship, Luke Styke, who is the current Australian MX Pro Lites challenger, and also swept to third in the 2011 Australian Supercross Lites and will take up the MX2 (250cc) berth and rounding out the team in the MX3 (Open) class will be Gold Coast Motocross pilot Todd Waters, who is currently running second in the 2012 Australian MX Nationals MX1 class.

Belgium also has a group to select from with Clement Desalle, Ken De Dycker, Jeremy Van Horebeek and Kevin Strijbos the main contenders.

With Team USA already selecting Ryan Dungey, Blake Baggett and Justin Barcia it will take a strong effort from the other teams to take victory in Lommel on September 30.
